Native American Education Program
The goal of the Native American Education Program is to meet the unique needs of Native American students and assist them in achieving academic success. The program also seeks to increase awareness of Native American history, traditions, and culture district-wide.
Title VI
In order to be eligible for Title VI services, a student must be a descendant in the first or second degree of an enrolled tribal member. Parents will need to complete an ED 506 Indian Student Eligibility Certification Form. The ED 506 form only needs to be completed once and is kept on file for the duration of the student’s enrollment in the Omak School District.
Johnson O'Malley (JOM)
In order to be eligible for JOM services, a student must be enrolled with a federally recognized tribe or be 1/4 degree Native American with a Certificate of Indian Blood.
Title VI & JOM Indian Education Committee
The Indian Education Committee (IEC) is an integral part of the Native American Education Program. The parent committee works in partnership with the district on the development, operation, and evaluation of the programs designed to meet the unique educational needs of Native American students. The committee approves all programs and budgets funded by JOM. All parents and community members are welcome to attend the IEC meetings, which will be posted on the district's website and Facebook page.
Omak School District Land Acknowledgement
The Omak School District recognizes that we have the privilege of educating on the traditional territories of the 12 tribes of the Colville Confederated Tribes and current reservation territory. However, acknowledgement is only a start. We thank the people of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, the original caretakers of the land since time immemorial, for allowing us to teach, learn, and live on their land with their knowledge systems. We encourage everyone to learn more about the land, history, relationships with tribes, treaties, agreements, executive orders, and jurisdictions in the traditional territories of the Colville Confederated Tribes' as we grow our knowledge with their teachings. Education is a powerful tool and we encourage you all to use it to make a better world for future generations.
